- About Cortona VRML Client, Version 2.1
- ======================================
-
- Cortona is a client for MS Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator,
- capable to browse virtual worlds written in VRML. Cortona provides navigation
- paradigms (such as walking or flying) that enable the user to move the viewer
- through the virtual world. In addition to navigation, it provides a mechanism
- allowing the user to interact with the world through sensor in the scene.
-
- Cortona is designed on the basis of the universal component technology that
- provides the opportunity of creating a wide range of 3D applications: from
- graphical processors to complex multi-user Internet-services. Cortona VRML
- client supports: OpenGL; Direct3D; Java language; Splines and NURBS; External
- Authoring Interface (EAI). Besides, the client has its own built-in VRML
- Automation Interface (Automation Interface for managing VRML scenes)
- based on the ActiveX Automation technology.
-
- Hardware and System Requirements
- ================================
-
- - Operating system: Microsoft(r) Windows(r) 95/98 or Windows NT(r) 4.0.
- - Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher, or
- Netscape Navigator 3.01 or higher (4.0+ recommended).
- - Computer: Pentium(r) 90 MHz or better.
- - Random Access Memory (RAM): minimum of 16 MB.
- - Free disk space: 6 MB of hard disk space for program files.
- - Display: SVGA/256 colors. The 800x600, high color mode is recommended.
- - Interface: Mouse and keyboard.
- - Sound card: optional.
-
-
- Installing Cortona VRML Client
- ==============================
-
- 1. Make sure that Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator is
- installed on your computer.
- 2. Run cortvrml.exe program.
- 3. Follow the setup instructions.
-
-
- Features
- ========
-
- - RealVideo and RealAudio support.
- - EAI for MS Internet Explorer.
- - EAI 2 support.
- - Multilanguage support in the Text node.
- - New rendering features: Motion blur effect for software renderer,
- textures mip-mapping.
- - Progressive download of IndexedFaceSet geometry (a new VRML node
- ProgressiveFaceSet is implemented using the PROTO mechanism).
-
-
- Important Changes
- =================
-
- - New software renderer: R98 Renderer.
- - Both Cortona control and plug-in allow to specify non-rectangle clipping region.
- - Now Cortona is added to the Programs menu.
- - Internet Explorer can automatically download Cortona if it is not already installed
- (CODEBASE attribute in HTML).
- - Corrected the realization of the following nodes: Extrusion, PlaneSensor.
- - The TouchSensor node support is VRML97-compliant. When the TouchSensor node
- generates an isActive TRUE event, the browser stops interpreting the
- motions of the pointing device as "move" commands.
- - WALK navigation is VRML97-compliant.
- - The visibility limit field of the NavigationInfo node is implemented now.
- - The Fog node is supported in the DirectX renderer and corrected in OpenGL.
- - Support for transparency for the PNG format.
- - Any character (including linefeeds, a double quote, and '#') may appear
- within the string, if it is preceded with a backslash.
- - One- or two-component textures can be combined with an object's color if its
- value is specified with a Material node.
-
-
- Known problems
- ================
-
- - If multiple URLs are specified in the Anchor node, the browser loads only the
- first file in the list.
- - The AsciiText and PointSet nodes in VRML1.0 are not supported.
- - The repeatS and repeatT fields of the ImageTexture node are always interpreted
- as TRUE.
- - The Text node:
- the characters 'D', 'B' draws incorrectly if font is Helvetica
- (family "SANS") and style "ITALIC";
- the length field is interpreted incorrectly;
- a texture mapping to a Text geometry does not follow VRML97.
-
-
- Compatibility Notes
- ===================
-
- Cortona supports standard VRML97 files, specification-compliant VRML
- 1.0 files.
